Top-Ups via Beverage Container Return Scheme (BCRS)

Back

The BCRS is a national initiative introduced by the Government of Singapore to reduce waste and improve recycling rates for beverage containers. The scheme is also known as "Return Right".

When empty beverage containers are returned to designated Return Right Machines, the deposit is refunded.

Effective 1 April 2026, all regulated pre-packaged beverage in plastic or metal containers that are 150ml to 3000ml (inclusive) for sale in Singapore will carry a S$0.10 deposit.

To be eligible for a refund, the beverage container must:

  • Be labelled with the Deposit Mark  BCRS Deposit Mark
  • Be empty, and lightly rinsed where possible
  • Not be crushed or heavily damaged

Containers that do not meet these conditions may be rejected.

You can return empty containers at over 1,000 return points across Singapore, including supermarkets, as well as in convenient and publicly accessible spaces like the void decks of HDB blocks and town centres. More information on the locations of return points can be found on the Return Right website.

Return points include:

  • Return Right Machines that accept containers one at a time
  • Manual return points where staff check containers before issuing refunds
  • Bulk return options for returning multiple containers together.

Please check that the container is labelled with the Deposit Mark, has readable barcode, and is not crushed.

The Return Right Machine uses multiple verification methods including barcode scanning, infrared sensors, cameras, and weight detection systems to ensure returned containers match their registered details in BCRS Ltd.'s database.
